In Reception our class is named after the author Julia Donaldson, we wish you a very warm welcome you to our Class Page.
This term Reception have transitioned to a new teacher brilliantly and all the children have made me feel so welcome. The children have enjoyed showing me their work and their creativity as we have been busy creating class artwork; drawings of our science experiments and beautiful pictures for Mrs Gregory.
This page is full of useful information for parents, including pictures of what we've been up to during the term and helpful tips on supporting you at home.
Last term Reception learnt all about 'People that help us' and were lucky enough to have a visit from a real life super hero, Dr Hopkins. The children enjoyed getting the chance to ask him questions as well as watching and learning as The Teddy bears paw was put in a plaster cast. We explored all the different people that help us in society, from doctors and teachers to shop keepers and carers. The children discussed how we need each other to keep ourselves healthy, clean and happy.
This term the children we will be exploring our Forest area to hunt for mini beasts, learning about our surroundings, continuing to learn about our different seasons and the changes they bring. Enjoying the sunshine in our outdoor area we have been creating nature Art to represent our favourite seasons. The children have been inventing different recipes for our mud kitchen, practicing our number bonds, adding and subtracting different amounts. In Spring we learnt about Vets, we looked at X-rays to guess the animal and discussed the different vets who they help keep different types of animal healthy. This Summer we learning more about Non-Fiction texts as well as exploring concepts like how to help look after our world.
Reading is such a valuable and powerful tool in your child's development! At Acton we have developed a 'Book Club' which is takes part in each class across the whole school. Help us to develop a love for reading within your children by sharing stories, rhymes and poems. As this helps to strengthen vocabulary and comprehension skills. Acton Ce Primary Academy, we ensure the curriculum we use is enriched with language and storytelling to support your child's love for reading, making story time a daily part of our routine. The learning environment is filled with exciting and engaging stories for your child to enjoy. We will begin to send reading for pleasure books home this half term and children will receive their RWI phonics books to help practice their sounding and blending.
For phonics we are following the Read Write Inc. scheme. We have extended our daily phonics sessions in class to include a section dedicated to reading. All information is available in the phonics subject page on the website.
On the right of this page there is also a Powerpoint on Read Write Inc for parents, this will provide you with some information on how we teach phonics and what you can do at home to support this. We also have logins for Teach Your Monster to Read and encourage you to use this resource at home, the children love the games!
Our PE lessons will be on a Thursday afternoon with our PE specialist teacher Mr Gibbons. We ask for the PE kit to remain in school during the week due to any possible timetable changes or extra activities where the PE kit will be needed.
During this term we will take part in a range of forest activities on the school grounds. Please provide your child with a pair of wellies that they can keep in the class during the term.
